Discreet billing: what a dating site charge really looks like

Updated October 12, 2026 · Match Parfait editorial team · How we rate

Short answer

Most affair sites bill under a neutral “descriptor” instead of their brand name: Ashley Madison's app listing says “AMDA,” and Victoria Milan says its name never appears on your statement. But the statement line is only one trace. App store receipts, family purchase sharing, renewal emails and the account's email inbox can give you away just as easily.

01What a billing descriptor is

Every card charge carries a short text label chosen by the merchant or its payment processor. That label is the descriptor, and it's what shows up in your banking app and on your monthly statement. A discreet site sets a descriptor that doesn't name the site.

Descriptors are short and often cryptic, which is the point. A line of capital letters or a payment company's name tells a casual reader nothing. It only works, though, if nobody goes looking for it, because a determined person can search any descriptor online in seconds.

Two catches. First, your bank can change how a merchant's name is displayed, and Ashley Madison's own app listing warns about exactly that. Second, a neutral name can still look odd. An unfamiliar charge every month is the kind of thing a partner who shares the accounts will eventually ask about.

Before paying anywhere, look up the descriptor in the site's help center or at checkout. If the site doesn't tell you, ask support in writing and keep the answer.

02What the main sites publish

We only list what each company states in its own help pages or store listings. Where a site doesn't publish the information in anything we could read, we say so instead of guessing.

SiteWhat it publishes about billing
Victoria MilanHelp center: the name VictoriaMilan “will never appear” on your bank statement. Site footer: payments are collected by Neon Media Labs Kft (Hungary), doing business as Digisecbilling.
Ashley MadisonGoogle Play listing: the charge appears as “AMDA” and not Ashley Madison, unless modified by your card company or bank.
Cougar LifeUses credit packages (App Store listing). We didn't find a published descriptor, so check at checkout or ask support.
Any app store purchaseApple bills as apple.com/bill (or itunes.com/bill). Google Play bills as GOOGLE* followed by the developer name, the app name or the content type.

03Web purchase or app store purchase?

This choice matters more than most people think. When you pay inside an iPhone app, Apple handles the charge, so your statement shows apple.com/bill. That looks harmless next to music and cloud storage. But Apple emails a receipt to your Apple Account address, and the purchase appears in your Apple purchase history with the app's name.

Family Sharing adds a trap. If Purchase Sharing is on, Apple's support pages say the family organizer pays for everyone's purchases by default, and the organizer can see members' purchases in their purchase history. If your spouse is the organizer, an in-app purchase is about as discreet as a postcard.

Google Play is different: Google says charges show as GOOGLE* followed by the developer name or the app name. Depending on the app, that could put the brand right on your statement.

Paying on the website keeps the app stores out of it and lets the site's own descriptor do its job. The trade-off: you're giving your card to the dating company's payment processor instead of to Apple or Google.

04Auto-renewal: the charge you forgot

The most common way people get caught isn't the first payment. It's the renewal three months later, on a card statement they assumed was clean, or a “your membership has renewed” email.

Victoria Milan's terms are specific, so they make a good example of what to look for anywhere:

  • The full amount for the period you choose is charged at once, not monthly.
  • After the first period, the subscription renews automatically for the same package length and price.
  • Promo prices only apply to the first purchase. Renewals charge the original, undiscounted price.
  • To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 14 days before the end of a 1- or 3-month plan, or 28 days before the end of a 6- or 12-month plan.
  • Buying a new subscription after cancelling switches automatic renewal back on.
  • Unused credits can be cancelled 90 days after your last login or 180 days after purchase, whichever comes first.

Put a reminder in a calendar only you see, set a few days before the cancellation deadline, not the renewal date. Name it something boring.

05How to cancel cleanly

Cancel the payment first, then close the profile. On Victoria Milan, the help center says your premium membership must be cancelled before you can deactivate your profile, and that deactivating doesn't cancel what you already owe. You can cancel from the “My membership” page or your settings, or by email from your registered address with a signed written request.

If you paid through Apple or Google, the site can't cancel it for you. On an iPhone: Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, pick the subscription, then Cancel Subscription. On Android, it's managed in the Google Play Store's subscriptions section.

Don't count on a refund. Victoria Milan's help center says buyers waive their right of withdrawal at checkout because access is immediate, and its terms say terminating doesn't entitle you to a refund. Read the equivalent page on any other site before you buy.

06The email trail and other leaks

Your statement is one door. The inbox is another. Sign up with a dedicated email address that no one else checks, and turn off the notification emails you don't need. Victoria Milan lets you switch them off category by category in Settings, and asks for a real, active address rather than a throwaway one, so a dedicated account works better than a temporary inbox.

  • Shared computer: use a private browsing window and log out every time.
  • Saved passwords: don't let a shared browser or password manager store the login.
  • Phone notifications: hide message previews on the lock screen for the dating app and the email app.
  • Card choice: a card only you receive statements for beats a joint account, whatever the descriptor says.
  • Marketing opt-ins: Victoria Milan's signup form asks whether you want occasional members-only emails from it and its partner sites. Click “No thanks.”

A discreet descriptor protects one line on one document. Your habits protect everything else.

Questions

  • What does Victoria Milan show on a bank statement?

Its help center says the VictoriaMilan name never appears on your statement and a different, anonymous name is used. The site footer names the payment collector as Neon Media Labs Kft, doing business as Digisecbilling. Check your first statement to see the exact line your bank displays.

  • What does Ashley Madison show on a credit card statement?

Its Google Play listing says the charge appears as “AMDA,” not Ashley Madison, unless your card company or bank modifies it.

  • Is paying through the App Store more discreet?

Your card statement shows only apple.com/bill, but Apple emails a receipt and lists the app in your purchase history. With Family Sharing's Purchase Sharing on, the organizer pays by default and can see members' purchases.

  • Do affair sites renew automatically?

Many do. Victoria Milan's terms say subscriptions renew automatically at the same length and the original, undiscounted price, with a 14- or 28-day cancellation notice depending on the plan.

  • Which payment methods does Victoria Milan accept?

Its help center lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, plus some voucher and e-wallet options that vary by country. The membership page shows what's available where you live.

  • Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Usually not. Victoria Milan says buyers waive the right of withdrawal at checkout. Read the refund section of any site's terms before paying.
